Kathmandu: The trailer of the film *Gunyu Cholo: The Dress* has been officially released, offering a powerful glimpse into the emotional and social struggle of a transgender woman seeking to reveal her true identity. Central to the narrative is the tension between a son who wants to express his gender identity and a father who tries to suppress it.
The trailer highlights the conflict beginning in childhood, showing a boy who is fond of wearing women’s clothing being pressured by his father to become “masculine” through military training. The emotional turning point comes when the son, unable to continue hiding his authentic self, decides to leave home. The trailer portrays the reactions and pressures he faces—not only from his parents but also from neighbors, relatives, and friends.
The lead role is played by **Najir Husen**, who portrays a transgender woman. The trailer also features other prominent actors including **Sanchita Luitel**, **Sushil Sitaula**, **Rajkumar Ghosh**, **Shishir Rana**, **Anupam Shrestha**, and **Bishal Pahari**. Directed by **Samundra Bhatt**, *Gunyu Cholo: The Dress* is based on the story of a gender minority and transgender individual, making it one of Nepal’s first fully trans-centered narratives. The film is set for release on **Bhadra 13 (August 29, 2025)**.
Internationally, the movie has already garnered attention. The U.S.-based **Buffalo 8** has acquired global distribution rights. All post-production work—including editing, color grading, sound design, mixing, and background music—was completed abroad in Hollywood style.
Renowned Hollywood artist **Lisa Gerrard**, known for her work in *Gladiator 2*, has lent her voice to the film, with the entire background score composed by **Marcelo de Francisci**. This film is a co-production between a Nepali and a Hollywood production house.
Produced by **Aakash Budhathoki** and **V-Bhanse Janubon**, the film’s executive producers are **Jeffrey J. Wain** and **Steve Johnston**, with **Anupam Shrestha** serving as associate producer. Cinematography is by **Alok Shukla**, and the film includes lyrics by **Lekhu Sahayatri**.
*Gunyu Cholo: The Dress* was also selected for screening at the prestigious **Tasveer Film Market** in the United States, further elevating its international profile.
