The Film Development Board has been provided with a state-of-the-art RED MX camera for the construction of the Film Museum. This marks a first in Nepali cinema, as the board aims to systematically collect and preserve the cinematic heritage. The board has expedited the preparation of the museum with the goal of organizing the cinematic assets.
Under the leadership of cinematographer Purushottam Pradhan, who has been actively involved in the Nepali film industry for the past 16 years, Rajat Budhathoki, the director of Cinefocus Production House, handed over the camera. The camera was received by the board's chairman, Dinesh D.C.
Upon receiving the equipment, Chairman D.C. stated that this contribution would significantly add to the campaign of preserving and honoring the historical journey of the film industry. “The time has come to document and validate the history, technology, and contributions of cinema not just on paper, but through actual documents and equipment,” he mentioned.
The museum will preserve historical assets of Nepali cinema, including old cameras, production equipment, film posters, music material, scripts, awards, and honors, as announced by the board. This camera has been used to shoot various Nepali films, including Maya J Bar , Chha Ekaan Chha, and Ajhai Pani.
Rajat Budhathoki, who provided the camera, expressed his satisfaction in contributing to preserving the history of Nepali cinema and inspiring the younger generation. Originally from Dagam, he moved to the capital to engage in the film business. His company currently manages the rental of equipment and post-production services for film production. Cinefocus is considered a leader in modern lighting and equipment.
“Cinema is our identity. It is everyone’s responsibility to preserve its history,” he stated. The handover ceremony was attended by Samir Balami, president of the Film Journalists Association, and General Secretary Raghu Nath Sapkota, among others.
